The Rebuild Mayfield project is committed to creating a safer, more walkable environment while restoring the historic charm of the city’s streetscape.

This project reflects the community’s resilience and vision for a better future.

The City of Mayfield is dedicated to rebuilding and revitalizing its downtown area, following the devastating tornado that impacted the city.

About the Project

The Rebuild Mayfield project will transform downtown into a safer, more accessible space for walking and biking. Spanning 2.5 miles, the initiative will rebuild key roadways while addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges that existed even before the tornado devastated the community.

Streets will be redesigned to better serve the community. By allocating more dedicated space within the public right-of-way for pedestrians and cyclists, the project will reduce vehicle speeds and create a safer, more welcoming environment for all users.

As part of the planning process, the project team evaluated multiple design options for 7th and 8th Streets, along with surrounding roadways and intersections. Following the April public meeting and community feedback, the project team chose Alternative 1 as the preferred alignment. This design includes roundabouts to improve traffic flow and safety, along with a shared-use path that provides a safe, dedicated space for both pedestrians and cyclists.

  • The project team hosted a public meeting on April 17, 2025 at Graves County High School to present two design alternatives for the project.
  • Alternative 1 proposed roundabouts and a shared-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, while Alternative 2 featured signalized intersections and bike lanes.
  • After reviewing community feedback, the project team chose Alternative 1 as the preferred alignment for its safety benefits and improved traffic flow.
